Chimborazo

The starting point for the ascent of Chimborazo is the city of Riobamba. With good acclimatization, it will take two days to reach the summit of the volcano. The normal route leads from the staffed Carrel Hut (4,850 m) to the high camp (5,300 m), where we spend one night. From there, we ascend the summit on a technically easy route. The descent leads back to the Carrel Hut, from where we return to Riobamba. With excellent acclimatization and very good fitness, the mountain can also be climbed in a single day. In this case we skip the high camp on the normal route, In the past, the mountain was often climbed from the slightly higher Whymper Hut (5,000 m). Today this route is less frequently used because the lower section is prone to rockfall after midday. However, with a very early start at night and a quick ascent, it is still an option for fit mountaineers.
